Tested Recipes are sourced from established third-party culinary databases, including Spoonacular, which aggregates recipes from cooking sites, food publications, and professional recipe developers. These are recipes that have been published, tested in multiple kitchens, and in many cases rated and reviewed by home cooks who have made them.
The app filters a large database of established recipes down to those achievable with your current pantry. It checks ingredient overlap and ranks results by how complete a match your pantry is. A recipe that requires ten ingredients and you have nine of them ranks higher than one where you're missing half the list.
Where available, the app displays community ratings and review counts alongside each recipe. This gives you a quick signal of which dishes have been made successfully by many cooks. Every recipe in Tested mode also displays its original source so you can navigate to the publication directly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Has What's In My Pantry personally tested every recipe?
No. Tested Recipes are sourced from established third-party databases with their own publication and review processes.
Can I see the original source of a recipe?
Yes. Source attribution is displayed with each recipe, and links to original publications are included where available.
What if a recipe from an external source contains an error?
Because these recipes originate from third-party sources, errors are outside our control. We recommend consulting the original source if something appears incorrect.
